BMW is a master of the inline-six engine, and the M57 is arguably the brand's best diesel engine ever. The M57 came in three different displacements including 2.5,2.9 and 3 liters making up to 580
With both a supercharger and turbocharger, with pistons made out of chewing gum, there’s no way you’ll enjoy this engine. 1.6 MPI of 102 bhp – The good old 1.6 MPI sings it’s final hurrah under the bonnet of the VW Golf MK VI. Launched all the way back to the Mk III Golf, this engine is just about the most reliable unit on the Mk VI Golf.

It is not very good at accelerating from a low speed in 5th gear as the 1.9 but a lot better in the lower gears. My sister has a 2.0 Golf 6 speed and you are never in the right gear, its probably ok for motorways or straight roads where you can keep a constant speed but not so good on twisty country roads.
If the turbo fails it's about $1200 new. Add the dpf to that too since the turbo typically pukes oil into the dpf which clogs it with oil. The serpentine belt can also fail if diesel fuel leaks on it. The failure can lead to lots of bits of the belt getting into the timing belt area of the engine.
Our verdict on the Audi A3 Cabriolet 1.6 TDI SE. The overall result of the A3's improvements is a resounding success. The new A3 Cabriolet is better to drive than the old one, with improved engines and suspension. It's a car that owners of older A3 Cabriolets can be familiar with and upgrade to, without feeling stuck in the past.
There are many engines to choose from, each one offering an excellent blend of performance and economy. The 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI engines are recommended if you cover long distances. We’d favour the 2.0 TDI, which is almost as economical as the 1.6 TDI and comes with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmissions.
I have received a quote for a 15 plate 1.6 tdi se estate model for around £150 per month over 4 yr pcp which is great for me saves me £65 a month on my car at the moment and due to starting my own business helps keeps costs a little lower . The problem is that iv heard the 2.0tdi is much better but the 2.0 tdi are a bit scarse at the moment
